Winter at Ballet Kelowna

After a record-breaking snowfall in Kelowna earlier in the week, Simone Orlando and the Ballet Kelowna dancers are back in the studio working on Winter Journey, the piece Simone created in 2006 through her Clifford E. Lee Choreography Award at The Banff Centre.

Winter Journey is one of three Lee Award pieces to be presented on Ballet Kelowna’s upcoming Spring Tourprogramme.  The Company will be touring to 9 cities this spring, including Penticton, Vancouver, and Banff.  For more information on our tour dates and destinations click here.

Simone is just back from Ipswich, England where she participated in DanceEast’s Rural Retreat, an invite-onlyconference for dance leaders from around the world.  Guest speakers at the conference included Major General John Sutherell, Assis Carreiro (Freelance Dance Consultant), Christopher Hampson (Artistic Director of Scottish Ballet) and Kenneth Olumuyiwa Tharp (Executive Director of The Place in London).

While in the UK, Simone had the opportunity to see theScottish Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker and the Royal Ballet’s new production of Don Quixote.  Simone wasn’t the only one abroad over the holidays.  Ballet Kelowna dancerDesiree Bortolussi attended Ballet Ireland’s production ofSwan Lake, Jed Duifhuis visited Germany to see Ballet Mannheim, and Mark Dennis saw Staatsoper Hannover‘s production of Sleeping Beauty and Rodin und Claudel.

Upcoming Master Classes and Choreographic Workshops
