Equal parts artist, educator and entrepreneur, I have provided guidance on the business side of art to over 4000 artists in groups and 450 individuals through Artist Career Training. In my art practice, I am a layerist. I paint, cut, shred, glue, staple, cut and assemble paper, plastic, metal sheets and objects. Like an iceberg , the surface of my work is the visible pinnacle, built upon many layers of materials, methods, meanings and memories. “Layering is not a label for a specific technique, such as collage. It is a way to think about creating art as a synthesis of ideas from many sources: the sciences, philosophy, metaphysics, experience, and imagination.” http://www.slmm.org Aletta de Wal, MEd.
