Katila Whiteman at Rutland Library

On , In Artscape, Rutland Library

Katila Whiteman is extremely curious about life: how language shapes our reality, how certain aspects of our reality are hidden from our senses, and how the metaphysical aspects of the world function around us everyday.

Katila grew up in Kenya and spent the first 21 years of her life there. In her childhood, Katila spent a lot of time outdoors. The distinctive Kenyan landscape with its diverse culture deepened her interest in and connection to nature. She then moved to Canada to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a focus in film and photography. As Katila continued to work through her degree, she found more specialisations that peaked her interest including sculpture, drawing, film-based photography, cultural studies, and art history.
