Join us as Kelowna’s arts and culture leaders throw open their doors and welcome you to join them for Culture Days. There are dozens of events in the works and more activities are being added each day!

FREE FAMILY ACTIVITIES

Culture Days weekend is September 30, October 1 & 2! This three-day, nationwide celebration offers up free activities, events, and experiences for people of all ages. The following list is a small snapshot of the more than 70 activities taking places throughout Kelowna this weekend. To see the full list, visit CultureDays.ca!

Saturday, October 1

Build a Bee Hotel

10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Participants will assist by filling fruit boxes with pinecones and bricks, and by drilling holes and creating places for these friendly insects to live. Once completed the hotel will be placed at Brent’s Grist Mill Heritage site as part of The Art and Pollinator Project.

Tipi Raising, Storytelling & Interactive Hoop Dancing

10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Experience First Nations culture and help the Ki-Low-Na Friendship Society raise a Tipi! Throughout the day you can also take part in storytelling in the tipi and interactive hoop dancing.
Location: The Arts Common, 421 Cawston Avenue

Ukrainian Dance Fun

12 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Dolyna Ukrainian Cultural Society will be teaching and demoing lively Ukrainian dance moves and face painting for all those passing by Kerry Park by the sails on October 1st.

Pop-Up Library in Stuart Park

11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Come visit the team from the Okanagan Regional Library’s Downtown branch for some activities, and get your new library card too!
Location: Stuart Park, 1430 Water Street

Children’s Dance Classes in Stuart Park

11:45 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. | 1:00 p.m. – 1:45 p.m. | 2:15 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Bring the kids and burn off some energy with Creator’s Arts Centre! Their experienced dance instructors will be offering free dance classes throughout the day.

Behind-the-Scenes Tour at Okanagan Heritage Museum

2 p.m. – 5 p.m.
Join Kelowna Museums on the hour for a 45-minute peek behind closed doors. On these guided tours you will have the opportunity to see parts of the museum that are not normally open to the public, with many surprises in store.

Okanagan Regional Library – Rutland Branch

10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
There’s always something happening at the library!

Creator’s Arts Centre will be offering special free dance classes at 10:15 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. in the library meeting room, the perfect place to let the kids burn off some energy while you read a good book.

Join Keystone Music all day for a musical petting zoo and make a TON of noise right at the library with pianos and guitars on site.

Sunday, October 2

Papel Picado Family Art Activity at the Kelowna Art Gallery

1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Try your hand at the Mexican folk art of paper-cutting called Papel Picado. Papel Picado involves creating elaborate designs on paper using scissors and special folding techniques.

OUR Coffeehouse – Special Family Sunday Edition

2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
A music-lover’s delight, OUR Coffeehouse is the best open mic night in town, complete with feature performers and a beautiful, historic venue. Join the special family Sunday edition and give your kids a chance to shine.

Open Rehearsals at Bumbershoot Theatre

12:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Ever wondered what goes into the making of a family-friendly theatre production? Sit in as Bumbershoot Theatre rehearses for two upcoming shows, James and the Giant Peach and 2 B Wut U R!

Annual Rutland Scarecrow Festival

12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
The annual Scarecrow Festival, presented by the Uptown Rutland Business Association, is a favourite family tradition, complete with face painting, a scarecrow competition, face painting, live music and more!
Location: Lions Park, 205 Gray Road

Take a walk in downtown Kelowna and keep your eyes peeled for beautiful artworks by local artists in shop windows!

The Downtown Gallery project is placing artwork in the storefront windows of downtown businesses creating sprawling art exhibition throughout the downtown core. Many downtown businesses including Okanagan Spirits, Funktional, Milkcrate Records, Modern Accents, Olive and Elle, Tigerlily and Pharaoh Tattoo Studio are already on board to host artwork in their windows for this 3 day event.
